IPG Defines Management Roles in Lowe/Bozell Merger

NEW YORK Interpublic Group said Friday that it is merging Bozell with Lowe, and that Bozell CEO Tom Bernardin will play a leading role in the combined operation, which will be called Lowe.

But IPG said Bernardin would take the U.S. titles of president and chief operating officer, not CEO, as many sources had initially anticipated (Adweek, Feb. 3). The U.S. CEO will remain Paul Hammersley.

Jerry Judge continues as worldwide CEO and Gary Goldsmith remains U.S. chairman and chief creative officer. In addition, Lowe’s current New York president Rob Quish is expected to take on a global role as an evp for Lowe Worldwide.

“The cultural compatibility between these two agencies, combined with a complementary client roster, make this a very good fit,” IPG CEO John Dooner said in a statement, adding, “Jerry Judge and Tom Bernardin are dynamic leaders who, I am confident, can make this work for both their organizations and their clients.”
