Exec Pleads Guilty in Printing-Industry Investigation NEW YORK—Federal prosecutors investigating alleged fraudulent billing practices in the printing industry netted a third guilty plea last week, as Bertram Cohen, owner of Darbert Offset, a New York-based graphics supplier, pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges associated with mail fraud and tax evasion, sources said. Cohen will be sentenced in January and faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Also last week, Howard Marlin, the owner and CEO of Caysun Graphics Ltd., and Gabriel Casas, a former Color Wheel salesman, pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the investigation (see Newswire, page 40).Publicis Wins $20-30 Mil. Garnier Product LaunchNEW YORK—Garnier, a division of L'Oréal USA, has tapped Publicis in New York to handle creative duties for the U.S. launch of Fructis, a new line of hair-care products, the agency confirmed. The L'Oréal roster shop won the assignment, estimated to be worth $20-30 million, following a review that included other, undisclosed, contenders, sources said. Publicis Groupe's Optimedia in New York handles media. Cadbury Taps Consultancy for $30-50 Mil. ReviewNEW YORK—Agency Assessments, a consultancy in London, is managing the review for Cadbury's pan-European and Canadian chocolate-based business, sources said. Undisclosed agencies are contending for the estimated $30-50 million account, which includes the Crispy Crunch, Maynards, Cadbury Creme Eggs and Caramilk brands. TBWA Worldwide resigned the account in August to take on global creative duties for Mars, a client that competes with Cadbury in confectionaries. Riney Adds Staffers to Service HPSAN FRANCISCO—Publicis & Hal Riney, here, has added executives to the creative and production teams handling the expanded Hewlett-Packard account. The agency last week named Sam Walsh svp, director of broadcast production on HP. Also, Eric Osterhaus, a former Goodby, Silverstein & Partners copywriter, and Stephen Mietelski, a former TBWA\Chiat\Day associate creative director, were each named acd and copywriter. Sources said the moves were spurred by the recent expansion of the shop's HP business as a result of the client's merger with Compaq. Account ActivityE.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. has awarded ad duties for its solid-surfaces division to Doner, the client confirmed. The Southfield, Mich.-based agency won the estimated $15-25 million account following a review that included Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners in New York and Eisner Communications in Baltimore. Agencyfinder.com in Glen Allen, Va., handled the search. … The Discovery Channel, a division of Discovery Communications, is in the final stages of a review, sources said. The Bethesda, Md.-based client is considering several undisclosed agencies for a project assignment. A decision is due next week, sources said. The Discovery Channel spent about $20 million on ads in 2001, according to CMR. … Venables, Bell & Partners in San Francisco has won the estimated $5 million Robert Mondavi wine account, the agency confirmed. The shop was selected over AKQA in San Francisco.
