Western Union Delivers to JWT, Zubi

CHICAGO—Western Union has selected J. Walter Thompson lead agency on its $25 million advertising account, the company confirmed. The Chicago shop teamed with Zubi Advertising Services of Coral Gables, Fla., in the review for the Denver-based wire transfer service’s business. The other two contending teams were Leo Burnett and Lapiz, both Chicago, and BBDO’s Chicago office, which partnered with Dieste, Harmel & Partners in Dallas. JWT, through its WPP network, will also handle media at Mindshare. Incumbents Bromley Communications in San Antonio and Lowe of New York were previously cut from the contenders list.

Creative Civilization Heads WNBA Campaign

DALLAS—Creative Civilization is leading San Antonio’s push to secure a WNBA team for the 2003 season. To help the city reach the league-mandated 6,000 season ticket deposits of $50 each, the San Antonio shop has developed a “WNBA in SA 2003” logo that captures the spirit of the league’s existing icon. Creative also has created brochures, print ads and local television spots. The campaign will run until November, or the ticket goal is met.

Breedlove Launches Golfsmith TV, Print

DALLAS—Breedlove + Partners taps into golfers’ passions for the game in a new television and print campaign for Golfsmith International. An accident victim leaves an ambulance gurney and dives back into a river to retrieve his golf clubs from his submerged car in one TV spot by the Austin, Texas, agency. In another spot, a husband hinges his buying decision on a Persian rug by how well he can putt on the carpet. The commercials run this month on national cable sports channels.

McGill Secures Land Rover Accounts

DALLAS—McGill Associates has acquired public relations, direct marketing and media placement duties for Land Rover Dallas and Land Rover Frisco. The Dallas shop will do local promotions for the two dealerships, which are unveiling a new Range Rover later this spring.

DaimlerChrysler May Use Film Fest Footage

DETROIT—DaimlerChrysler’s Chrysler Group is considering using the entries of a film contest as a key part of the launch ads for its Chrysler Crossfire early next year, sources said. The Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival provides fledgling filmmakers the opportunity to compete for a $1 million feature film production and distribution deal. Chrysler’s national creative agency, PentaMark Worldwide in Troy, Mich, is facilitating the car maker’s partnership with other festival sponsors.

Civil War Museum Evaluates Agencies

ATLANTA—Coughter & Co. is conducting an agency search for the Tredegar National Civil War Center Foundation. Billings are $2 million. Finalists will make presentations this week to the Richmond, Va., museum’s board. Participating agencies are Neathawk Dubuque; Big River Advertising; Barber Martin; Siddall, Matus & Coughter; and The Martin Agency, all in Richmond. A decision is expected in mid-May. The museum, to be built on the site of the Tredegar Iron Works, will open in 2005.
