Goodby to Open Detroit Office for Saturn SAN FRANCISCO—Goodby, Silverstein & Partners here will open an office in Detroit to service the Saturn business, said Pat Henry, client advertising manager. It remains to be seen how big the Detroit staff will be and what duties will be handled there, she said. The satellite office would be the first for Goodby, which won the $300 million Saturn account Jan. 31, shortly after it was awarded the client's $30-50 million Ion launch. Mars Advertising Lands in Bay Area SAN FRANCISCO—Mars Advertising has opened an outpost in the Bay Area, its eighth office nationwide. The 29-year-old shop, headquartered in Southfield, Mich., hired Siena Long as svp and director of growth and innovation at the outpost in Pleasanton, Calif. Prior to joining Mars, Long headed up new business for HWY1, a now-defunct integrated shop in San Francisco. The new office claims Palm and Levi Strauss & Co. as clients. Wiley Joins Saatchi & Saatchi LOS ANGELES—Caryn Wiley has joined Saatchi & Saatchi in Torrance, Calif., as a senior account planner on Procter & Gamble's Pur water filters account, a new post. Previously, she worked at Davis Elen in Los Angeles and ran her own agency, Wiley & Associates, before that. Wieden Vet Duncan Moves to BE&P CHICAGO—Former Wieden + Kennedy media director Knox Duncan joined Barkley Evergreen & Partners in Kansas City, Mo., as chief media officer. At Wieden, Duncan, 41, held the top media post in Portland, Ore. He will oversee all of BE&P's media operations, including its buying subsidiary Run SpotRun and interactive media operations. California Delays Decision on Lottery Protest LOS ANGELES—The California State Lottery has granted its legal department a 15-day extension to resolve a protest over its handling of the review for its four-year, $100 million creative and media account. DDB in Los Angeles had been named the winner last month. However, incumbent Grey in Los Angeles then filed a formal protest with the lottery. A decision is now expected by the end of the month. Microsoft Readies New 'Agility' Push SAN FRANCISCO—Microsoft is preparing to launch the latest segment of its "Agility" campaign via McCann-Erickson in San Francisco, according to sources. The global effort from the Redmond, Wash., client will break later this month, sources said. Details of the campaign and a budget were not available. The last Agility campaign, geared toward computer-savvy business executives, broke in early 2001. Swirl Wins Bay Area Quality Management SAN FRANCISCO—The Bay Area Air Quality Management District awarded its ad account to Swirl Advertising in San Francisco, the client confirmed. The budget is about $1 million over two years. Swirl pitched the business with Fleishman-Hillard Public Relations, also in San Francisco, which was awarded the $300,000 media and community-relations portion of the business.
