Bluelight.com to Consider Agencies
CHICAGO–Bluelight.com, the recently announced Internet joint venture between Kmart Corp. and Yahoo!, will likely name an advertising agency by the end of the first quarter, said Fran Meier, the venture’s director of marketing. Though a full-scale review is unlikely to begin until early January, Kmart’s lead advertising agency, Campbell Mithun Esty in Minneapolis, and Yahoo!’s agency, Black Rocket in San Francisco, will likely be included, Maier said. Billings for the project were undisclosed. Two other retailers, Wal-Mart Stores and Best Buy Co., last week announced similar Internet joint ventures with America Online and Microsoft, respectively. Advertising plans for those ventures are unknown.
Digital E-tailer Looks for Ad Agency
NEW YORK–Infopost.com, an online provider of digital content, is searching for its first agency. A source estimated billings at $20 million. “We’ve just begun the search process,” said marketing director Chris Murphy. Infopost has contacted a handful of undisclosed shops.
Kirshenbaum Prevails for Sol
NEW YORK–Labatt USA is expected to tap Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners to handle its $10-12 million advertising account for Sol Beer, sources said. The New York agency prevailed over finalists Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis and Earle Palmer Brown, New York, in a review.
Fraser, McDonagh Co-Presidents at O&M
LOS ANGELES–Ogilvy & Mather’s office here has reshuffled its management team. Angus Fraser and Joe McDonagh have been named co-presidents of the office, replacing Jerry McGee, who moves into the new post of chairman and CEO. McDonagh joined the agency as executive vice president, creative director nearly a year ago from Saatchi & Saatchi Los Angeles. Fraser previously was the managing director of O&M’s Houston office.
Jordan Joins Y&R Board of Directors
NEW YORK–Young & Rubicam Inc. has elected Michael Jordan, chairman of Luminant Worldwide Corp., to its board of directors. Jordan served as chairman and CEO of CBS Corp., formerly Westinghouse Electric Corp., from 1993 to 1998. He spent 18 years in senior management positions at PepsiCo and PepsiCo International.

Della Femina/Jeary and Partners, New York, has won media and creative duties for the American Association of Retired Persons’ Modern Maturity magazine. It was unclear if the account was awarded after a review. Calls to the client and agency were unreturned and billings on the account were undisclosed. Established in 1958, Modern Maturity targets people aged 50 and older GreatDomains.com, a broker of Internet domain names, has awarded its $10 million account to Kalis & Savage. The Pacific Palisades, Calif., agency will create a national print campaign for the Los Angeles-based client. Advertising will focus on generating awareness of affordable, potentially valuable investment opportunities.
