– McCann Gets a Pair of Labatt›s Beer Brands
NEW YORK„Labatt USA has awarded creative duties on its Rolling Rock and Lowenbrau beer accounts to McCann-Erickson, New York, sources said. Labatt spent about $10 million in 1999 on the former, per Competitive Media Reporting. Numbers were not available on Lowenbrau for 1998-99. Both brands were shifted after incumbent Ammirati Puris Lintas merged with Lowe & Partners in November to form Lowe Lintas & Partners, sources said. Labatt recently awarded creative on its $10-12 million Sol beer account to Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, New York [Adweek, Dec. 20]. Sources said Kirshenbaum and McCann are now vying for creative duties on Dos Equis, a $1 million Labatt›s beer brand also formerly at APL. Final pitches are due later this month. The agencies and client declined comment. The Norwalk, Conn.-based client also plans to shift creative for Labatts Blue and Labatts Blue Light to the Toronto office of the former APL, sources said. That office is expected to become a spinoff of McCann.

LOS ANGELES„Crispin Porter Bogusky has won Imandi.com›s estimated $20 million online and offline advertising account. The Miami-based shop prevailed over finalists Dailey & Associates, Los Angeles, Cole & Weber, Seattle, and Moses Anshell, Phoenix. The company previously used freelancers for its advertising. Imandi.com is an e-commerce site that connects customers to merchants who compete for their business. New work is expected to break in February.

NEW YORK„Beck›s North America is set to launch new 15-second TV spots tied to its 2-month-old sports-programming alliance with ESPN/ABC. Tagged ˜A beer apart,” the ads, from Saatchi & Saatchi, New York, offer attitude-infused slogans against the deep-green background that will dominate Beck›s global communications, said Rainer Meyrer, evp-marketing for Beck›s, Stamford, Conn. Music is by New York›s Soul Coughing. Spending is expected to be around $40 million, up from $30 million last year. Media is handled by Creative Media, New York.
– Massachusetts Tourism Office to Kick Off Review
BOSTON„The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism is issuing a request for proposals tomorrow for its $3-9 million ad account. Incumbent Holland Mark Edmund Ingalls, Boston, is not participating. The agency›s three-year contract expires in June. A new agency, to be selected in March, will sign a contract that will be up for renewal annually for five years.

An independent unit of The Bozell Group, the New York shop will develop a brand-building campaign for the client. … Birch Telecom awarded its estimated $7-12 million account to Sullivan Higdon & Sink in Kansas City, Mo. The telephone and Internet service provider was looking for a larger agency than incumbent Prairie Dog in Kansas City.
