Deutsch Wins Third Mitsubishi Dealer Pitch
LOS ANGELES–Deutsch, with offices in Santa Monica, Calif., and New York, tallied its third straight victory in Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America’s consolidated dealer review last week. The shop beat Grey/Zimmerman for the estimated $10 million Midwestern dealers account. The win, which follows victories in the Western U.S. and New York regions, gives Deutsch ad duties for dealers in Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis and Columbus, Ohio, said sources.
Grey’s Blamer, Kupchick Bound for New York
LOS ANGELES–Grey Advertising announced late last Friday that two of its top Los Angeles office executives, executive vice president/managing director Steve Blamer and vice chairman/chief creative officer Alan Kupchick, will relocate to the agency’s New York headquarters to oversee the shop’s Kraft General Foods account. Jeff Alperin, chief executive officer of Grey’s Western Division, will take over Blamer’s management responsibilities in Los Angeles. Robert Giaimo, Grey L.A.’s creative director, will assume Kupchick’s creative duties until a replacement can be found.
Reviews Roundup. . . Quaker State Cuts Goodby
Quaker State in Irving, Texas, eliminated Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, as a finalist in the review for the creative portion of its estimated $20 million account. Leagas Delaney, San Francisco, and Bozell Worldwide, New York, are still in the running. A decision is expected in February. . . Goodby was named a finalist in the review for creative duties on Pep Boys’ estimated $25 million account, according to sources. The Philadelphia-based automotive retailer is also considering Bates USA, New York, and DDB Needham, Chicago, for the business, sources said. . . Silicon Graphics Inc., Mountain View, Calif., has narrowed the list of contenders for its estimated $30-40 million new personal computer business to four finalists: CKS Partners, Cupertino, Calif.; Arnold Communications, Boston; Grey Advertising, Los Angeles; and McCann-Erickson Worldwide, San Francisco.
Y&R Following Lincoln-Mercury Westward
DETROIT–Young & Rubicam plans to establish a new operation in Irvine, Calif., as Ford Motor Co. shifts its Lincoln-Mercury headquarters there. Y&R’s current Irvine office handles Lincoln-Mercury dealer business as well as some Taco Bell business, but the new team to be established in California will likely be separate from the existing office, said a client representative.
IPG Buys Consultancy; Zeltner Joins Western
LOS ANGELES–In conjunction with its media subsidiary, Western International Media in Los Angeles, Interpublic Group of Cos. has acquired New Salem, N.Y.-based advertising and media consultancy Herbert Zeltner Inc. Zeltner will join Western as chairman of its strategic review board, reporting to the media buying company’s president and chief operating officer, Michael Kassan.
