NationsBank, BofA May Divide Duties
DALLAS–NationsBank and Bank of America are giving shops the option of pitching their entire consolidated $80-100 million account or any of three components: retail banking, corporate branding or international advertising, sources said. At least 20 agencies, including the three incumbents, returned questionnaires last week. The client is expected to trim the field to 10 or less shops before making visits to determine finalists. Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas, is the incumbent for NationsBank. Bank of America’s agencies are Deutsch, New York and Marina del Ray, Calif. (creative duties and print media buying), and GSD&M, Austin, Texas (broadcast buying).

Canadian Club Review Is Narrowed to 4
CHICAGO–Four finalists will make presentations later this month, vying for creative duties on Allied Domecq’ s $5-10 million Canadian Club account, according to sources. Agencies involved are The Richards Group, Dallas; BBDO, Chicago; Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York; and Foote, Cone & Belding, San Francisco. Representatives of the agencies and the client either declined comment or could not be reached. Incumbent DDB Needham, New York, declined to participate. Media buying is expected to remain with Hudson Media Group, New York.

Thrifty Car Rental Cut Due This Week
DALLAS–Thrifty Car Rental is expected to make a cut to eight shops this week for site visits in its $10 million review, according to client marketing vice president Tom DeNardin. Thrifty officials originally planned to trim its current list of 12 undisclosed contenders last week. From the eight, DeNardin said Thrifty will select perhaps “three or four” finalists. A decision is due in September. Incumbent Ackerman McQueen, Oklahoma City, is not participating.

Knape Will Not Defend DART Account
DALLAS–Knape president Susan Knape confirmed the agency will not defend its contract with Dallas Area Rapid Transit. She cited lessening creative responsibilities and lowered budget figures in the new bid package. DART ad manager Micah Causey could not be reached for comment. Bid proposals are due Friday.

Lois Paul Opens PR Outpost in Texas
BOSTON–Lois Paul & Partners, a public relations agency in Burlington, Mass., has opened an Austin, Texas, office to service clients such as Tivoli Systems, Dazel Corp. and Smart Technologies. Joan Osleeb, vice president of client services, will head the branch.

DALLAS–DDB Needham Dallas broke a 30-second television spot last week for FootAction USA, Irving, Texas. The commercial promotes the availability of Reebok’s new DMX6 shoe at FootAction stores and features Detroit Lions wide receiver Herman Moore.
