Bates Snares CVS Media
BOSTON–Bates USA in New York has added media duties to its creative responsibilities on the estimated $40-50 million ad account of CVS, located in Woonsocket, R.I. The media account had previously been at TBS Media Management in New York. Neil Guliano, senior vice president of advertising at CVS, said Bates will take over media planning and buying on Nov. 1. Bates, which replaced Ingalls Advertising, Boston, on the account a year ago, has created ads for CVS using the theme “One at a time.”

Cadmus, Sotheby’s in Publishing Pact
BOSTON–Cadmus Custom Publishing here has joined with Sotheby’s International Realty to create Sotheby’s International Realty Domain, a magazine that will feature luxury homes and posh properties for sale worldwide. Specialty publisher Cadmus will be assisted by Spire, also in Boston, on design and layout. The 100-page, 4-color magazine will debut in October. Initial circulation is estimated at 80,000 and the startup will be distributed in retail bookstores, newsstands, airports and hotels, as well as in Sotheby’s offices and affiliated brokerages. The twice-yearly magazine hopes to be advertising supported by its second issue.

Lois Paul Opens in Austin, Texas
BOSTON–Lois Paul & Partners, the high-tech public relations agency in Burlington, Mass., has opened its third office in Austin, Texas, to service clients such as Tivoli Systems, Dazel Corp. and Smart Technologies. Joan Osleeb, vice president of client services, will head the outpost. Lois Paul also has an office in San Francisco.

Compaq Computer Recruits JWT
DALLAS–Compaq Computer Corp. has selected JWT Specialized Communications, Houston, to head the consolidated $5-10 million recruitment advertising efforts of the company and two of its recent acquisitions, Digital Equipment Corp., Maynard, Mass., and Tandem, Cupertino, Calif. JWT bested the Dallas office of Wellesley, Mass.-based JWG Associates and Bernard Hodes Advertising in Houston.

Mitek Leaves Lehman Millet for Arrco
BOSTON–Mitek Products, the Westwood, Mass.-based division of Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson company, has moved its account from Lehman Millet in Boston to Arrco Medical Advertising, also in Westwood. Billings are in the seven-figure range.

Bulldog Unleashed by And 1
BOSTON–Bulldog Drummond, San Diego, has been cut from the review for And 1 sneakers’ $3 million account, an agency official said. Still in the running are Holland Mark Martin Edmund, Boston, The Lord Group and DCA Advertising, both New York, Crispin Porter & Bogusky, Miami, and possible undisclosed others. A decision is expected this week.
