AAF Plans Ad Image Campaign
CHICAGO – The American Advertising Federation is putting together a campaign addressing the erosion in clients’ appraisal of their need to advertise. Phil Guarascio, General Motors’ advertising chief and this year’s AAF chairman, will unveil details at the organization’s national conference in Minneapolis next month. Additionally, the AAF’s National Student Advertising Competition will include presentations to Hallmark Cards from 14 college teams on how to improve Hallmark’s campaign to build awareness and consumer loyalty. Hallmark said it has given the same assignment to lead agency Leo Burnett.

Martin Pulls Out of AMF Pitch
ATLANTA – The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., said Friday it has withdrawn from consideration for the $10-15 million AMF Bowling Worldwide review. The move leaves The Richards Group in Dallas and Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis competing for the account, previously with Mumford Marketing in Richmond.

TN Media Expected to Win Midas Media
CHICAGO – Midas International will consolidate its estimated $45 million broadcast media buying account with TN Media here following a review, according to sources. TN Media already handles network buying; a dozen agencies handle spot buying. TN Media could not be reached for comment. A Midas representative could not confirm any decision on media. Foote, Cone & Belding here, like TN Media a unit of True North, handles creative responsibilities for Midas.

Goodby, DDB Needham to Collaborate for A-B
SAN FRANCISCO – Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis has asked Goodby, Silverstein & Partners here to partner with fellow Omnicom agency and A-B roster shop DDB Needham Chicago to revamp and expand its “heritage” campaign, which features members of the Busch family talking about Budweiser’s history.

Burnett, MacManus Fend Off Merger Talks
NEW YORK – Leo Burnett, Chicago, and The MacManus Group, New York, are said to be closer to reaching an agreement that will link their media buying operations in Europe. However, both companies last week adamantly denied increasing speculation that the deal will extend beyond media and merge operations of Burnett and MacManus unit D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles – both of which are major Procter & Gamble agencies – into a single, new entity.

Buick Ad Director Gets New Post
DETROIT – Jack Bowen has been promoted from advertising director to brand manager-future products for General Motors’ Buick division, and a search is under way for a new ad director. Prior to joining Buick in September 1996, Bowen was an account director at Leo Burnett in Chicago. McCann-Erickson, Troy, Mich., is Buick’s national agency.
