Butler, Round Table Pizza to End Partnership
SAN FRANCISCO–Butler, Shine & Stern, Sausalito, Calif., will part ways with Round Table Pizza when the shop’s contract expires at the end of 1998, as the client is seeking a new creative strategy, said sources. The agency has handled the client’s estimated $5-7 million broadcast creative account since 1996. At press time, it was unclear whether the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based pizza restaurant chain will conduct an agency review.

Pete’s Officially Splits With Black Rocket
SAN FRANCISCO–As expected, Black Rocket has parted ways with Gambrinus, San Antonio, Texas, the new owner of Pete’s Brewing Co., Palo Alto, Calif. [Adweek, June 1]. Gambrinus last week moved ad duties to roster agency PGC Advertising, also in San Antonio. Ad spending for Pete’s was less than $1 million in 1997, per Competitive Media Reporting. Black Rocket’s new outdoor campaign for Pete’s will run until the end of the year.

Reviews Roundup … It’s a Snap for Saatchi
Saatchi & Saatchi, San Francisco, has been awarded an estimated $30 million advertising account from Snap, the Internet directory, search and navigation service jointly owned and operated by CNET and NBC. Sources said the other finalists were Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide and Ammirati Puris Lintas, both in New York. Saatchi will launch a national ad campaign for Snap next month that will include interactive, TV and outdoor executions. … Mitsubishi Electric America, Cypress, Calif., last week tapped D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in Los Angeles for its corporate and mobile computer ad account, valued at $2-3 million. LVL in Palo Alto, Calif., and Publicis Technology in San Francisco were the other finalists. … The remaining contenders in the review for Hunt-Wesson’s estimated $8-10 million Peter Pan, Wesson Oil and Knott’s Berry Farm foods brands are Houston Helm & Co., Los Angeles, and Euro RSCG Tatham and Cramer-Krasselt, both Chicago. Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis, dropped out. A decision is expected in late September. … Buckley/Friedman Advertising and Public Relations, Costa Mesa, Calif., has picked up creative and media duties for Reebok International’s commercial and consumer fitness equipment line. The shop won the Broomfield, Colo., company’s account after a review of other West Coast agencies. Billings were undisclosed.

Accounts Roundup … Universal Recruits JWT
JWT Specialized Communications’ Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Orlando, Fla., offices will split employment communications and recruitment advertising for Universal City, Calif.-based Universal Studios. Billings are estimated at $2.5 million. Melanie Graper will head the account from Los Angeles. … High-end appliance maker Thermador and Team One Advertising, El Segundo, Calif., have parted ways over “philosophical differences,” according to both sides. A representative of the Huntington Beach, Calif.-based company said there will be no review and that the company will hire an undisclosed local shop. Billings are estimated at $3 million.
