CHICAGO-Leinenkugel Brewing Co. in Chippewa Falls, Wis., assigned its $1-3 million ad account to Jacobson Rost in Sheboygan, Wis., the agency confirmed last week. The business was previously at Young & Rubicam, Chicago, which split with Leinenkugel’s owner Miller Brewing, Milwaukee, earlier this year.

LOS ANGELES-American Greetings, Cleveland, has sent out requests for proposals for an agency to handle corporate and media public relations for an impending initial public offering on its e-commerce site, the company said. The company expects to look for an ad agency once the spin-off is complete, said Jeff Petit, vice president of communications at the client. Doner, Southfield, Mich., handles American Greetings’ general ad account, which is unaffected by the PR search.
“Dentsu, Burnett Still Talking
CHICAGO-A bad year at Tokyo-based Dentsu, which last week announced annual profits dropped by nearly 7 percent and billings by over 4 percent, has not derailed a planned alliance with Leo Burnett, officials at both companies said. “Negotiations with Dentsu are at an advanced stage and we hope to have news on this front in the not-too-distant future,” Burnett chief operating officer Roger Haupt wrote in a memo to staffers. The two giants announced their intention to give Dentsu a minority stake in Burnett last December, with a March completion. Burnett officials said negotiations have dragged on because of the deal’s complexity.

LOS ANGELES-D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Los Angeles, has won a shootout for the advertising duties of, Santa Ana, Calif., the fourth high-tech client on the agency’s roster. Other shops that pitched the $20 million piece of business included Leo Burnett, Chicago; Cole & Weber, Seattle; and RiechesBaird, Irvine, Calif.

CHICAGO-Five agencies are vying for creative and planning duties on Citysearch’s advertising account, sources said. They are: Peterson Milla Hooks, Minneapolis; Wolf/Doyle and J. Brown LMC, both San Francisco; Colby Effler & Partners, Santa Monica, Calif.; and Young & Rubicam, Toronto. Ground Zero, Santa Monica, was the incumbent on the account. Billings were estimated at $1 million. Citysearch, Pasadena, Calif., merged with Ticketmaster Online last September.
