GMO Breaks First Cisco Campaign
SAN FRANCISCO–Cisco Systems launches its first-ever national ad campaign Aug. 24 to introduce itself to a “broader consumer audience,” according to executives at the San Jose, Calif.-based global networking company. The effort, from Goldberg Moser O’Neill in San Francisco, will run in select U.S. markets and is backed by $25-30 million in ad spending. The campaign is themed, “Empowering the Internet generation,” and includes TV spots and print executions.

A decision in the Jenny Craig review could come as early as this week. Executives of the La Jolla, Calif.-based weight loss center chain hear the last presentation today from creative incumbent Suissa Miller, Los Angeles. The Richards Group, Dallas, and WongDoody, Santa Monica, Calif., are also battling for the creative portion of the account. Western International Media is defending media buying duties against Carat ICG, Los Angeles. … The National Potato Promotion Board has enlisted consultancy Jones Lundin in Chicago to conduct an agency review for its estimated $5 million account. The Denver-based board is shifting its marketing strategy toward promotions, according to Doug Slothower, its president and chief executive. The incumbent, TBWA Chiat/Day’s San Francisco office, was invited to defend, but declined. A decision is expected by the end of the year. … Houston Helm Bermudez Communications, Los Angeles, the Hispanic division of Houston Helm & Co., has been awarded Hispanic ad duties for Carrows Restaurants. Billings are undisclosed. The review was handled by Select Resources International, Los Angeles.
Envision Acquires Millennium
LOS ANGELES–Denver-based Anschutz Corp. has joined with a group of sports and entertainment marketing executives to form ko/Envision here. The company, specializing in entertainment marketing and partnership promotions, has acquired deo/Millennium Marketing, a Los Angeles entertainment marketing company.
List Trimmed in NationsBank, BofA Review
DALLAS–The review for the $80-100 million consolidated account of NationsBank and Bank of America was narrowed to between eight and 10 shops, sources said, down from at least 20. NationsBank incumbent Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas, is advancing, along with Bozell Worldwide, Lowe & Partners/SMS and Saatchi & Saatchi, all in New York. It was not clear at press time if BofA creative and print media buying incumbent Deutsch, New York and Marina del Rey, Calif., will advance. GSD&M, Austin, Texas, the incumbent broadcast media agency for BofA, was cut.
Kia Promotes Macedo
SAN FRANCISCO–Kia Motors America, Irvine, Calif., promoted Dick Macedo to executive vice president of marketing and sales, from vice president of marketing and sales.
