Publicis’s BMW Intro Is for Dealers
CHICAGO–Publicis, New York, has produced a dealer-oriented spot for BMW of North America’s 300 series station wagon. Jim McDowell, the Woodcliff Lake, N.J, company’s vice president of marketing, said the spot was intended to help dealers until the entire sport wagon line is introduced in the fall. BMW’s lead agency, Fallon Minneapolis, will handle that introduction, he said.
Steelcase Meets With 3 Shops
CHICAGO–Office furniture marketer Steelcase is hearing from three agencies regarding its $5-10 million advertising account, sources said. Biggs/Gillmore Communications in Kalamazoo, Mich., was the Grand Rapids, Mich., company’s last known agency.
H&R Block Gets a New Symbol
CHICAGO–H&R Block unveiled its new logo and brand identity last week. The new symbol, which is a large green square with the company’s name to the right, will be a part of the financial services company’s advertising campaign from Campbell Mithun, Minneapolis, in January 2001.
VML Establishes Dallas Outpost
DALLAS–VML, a Kansas City, Mo.-based advertising agency, has opened a full-service office in Dallas. VML Dallas opens with more than $30 million in capitalized billings from interactive clients including Centex Home Equity, Coca-Cola and Sprint Business. New general manager of VML Dallas Chris Anthony was formerly manager of field sales and marketing for the Southwest region of Coca-Cola.
Burnett’s Safe Ploy Nets Worker Cash
CHICAGO–Tom Pierce won a cash prize of $1,935 as part of Leo Burnett’s 65th anniversary celebration last week. The operations senior systems programmer and 24-year veteran of the agency had the winning combination to a cast-iron safe set up in the agency’s lobby that “allegedly belonged to founder Leo Burnett,” according to a mock history written up for the event.
Checkers Restaurants in Review
ATLANTA–Checkers Drive-In Restaurants’ $10 million marketing account has been put into review. Crispin Porter & Bogusky, the fast-food chain’s agency of record, has declined to participate in the review. The Miami agency has held the account for the past three years. Select Resources International in Los Angeles will conduct the search for the Clearwater, Fla.-based client.
Colle & McVoy Buys Makenzie
CHICAGO–Colle & McVoy has bought strategic marketing consultant Makenzie Marketing. Jim Bergeson, Colle & McVoy’s chief executive officer, said the acquisition will help the agency “develop high-end marketing consulting services to better serve our clients.” Both shops are located in Minneapolis.
