Crispin Porter Lands Merrell Footwear
ATLANTA–Hiking boot maker Merrell Footwear awarded the creative portion of its estimated $1 million account to Crispin Porter & Bogusky in Miami following a review, sources said last week. Other contenders, according to sources, included TDA Advertising & Design in Longmont, Colo.; Hammerquist & Saffel Creative Services in Seattle; and FJCandN/Williams & Rockwood and Harris & Love, both Salt Lake City. Officials at CP&B referred Adweek’s queries to the client, which did not return calls at press time. Burlington, Vt.-based Merrell was recently acquired by Wolverine Footwear of Rockford, Mich.
Zimmerman Hires Fairbanks as Client VP
ATLANTA–The Zimmerman Agency in Tallahassee, Fla., signed Dana Fairbanks as vice president of client services. Most recently, Fairbanks was vice president and management supervisor at Grey Advertising in New York, where she worked on the Procter & Gamble, Motorola and 3M accounts. Prior to Grey, she was senior account supervisor on the Nintendo business at Leo Burnett in Chicago.
Martin’s Ellis Is Media Planner of the Year
ATLANTA–Karen Ellis, vice president and director of media planning at The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., last week was named media planner of the year by Mediaweek, a sister magazine of Adweek. “The Martin Agency has been getting nationwide recognition for its creative work for years,” Ellis said. “This award gives our media department some national attention for the creative media strategies and planning we’ve done for our roster of clients.”
Richards Gets More of Tampa’s JumboSports
DALLAS–The Richards Group here has picked up media buying and planning duties worth perhaps $4 million-plus for client JumboSports. The Tampa, Fla.-based sporting equipment and apparel retailer assigned the business to Richards after a one-year broadcast creative relationship. Media was previously at Horizon Media in New York.
