Arnold Loses AlliedSignal Buys to Grey Unit
BOSTON–AlliedSignal in Morristown, N.J., has moved media buying chores for its Autolite and Fram brands from Arnold Communications in Boston to MediaCom in New York after a review involving only roster shops, sources said. The client opened the review for a consolidated account following completion of its buyout of Prestone last year. That pitted Prestone agency Grey Advertising, parent company of MediaCom, against Arnold, which handled the Autolite and Fram brands for more than a decade. Creative assignments and media planning stay with the incumbent shops. Prestone spent almost $11 million on ads in 1997, according to Competitive Media Reporting. Spending on Fram and Autolite for the same period was $6 million, per CMR. Client representatives could not be reached for comment at press time.
JWT Lures Bermuda; Martin Takes Aruba
NEW YORK–The Bermuda Department of Tourism last week selected J. Walter Thompson in New York and Tango Multimedia in Hamilton, Bermuda, to handle its estimated $12 million ad account. JWT bested Arnold Communications in Boston, Eisner & Associates in Baltimore and Hill, Holliday/Altschiller and Grey Advertising, both in New York. Each of the U.S. agencies had participated in the review with a Bermuda-based advertising or public relations shop. Incumbent DDB Needham in New York decided not to participate. Separately, The Martin Agency has won the $7-10 million account of the Aruba Tourism Authority. The review was managed by Pile and Co. in Boston.
Arnold Parent Posts Highest Earnings to Date
BOSTON–Snyder Communications in Bethesda, Md., last week reported record revenues, operating profits and earnings per share for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 1998. The parent company of Arnold Communications, New England’s largest ad agency, said revenue for the full year increased to $815 million from $612 million in 1997. Snyder’s stock price last week hovered around $36 a share.
Weber Expands Global Practice
BOSTON–The Weber Group has promoted Gregory Levendusky to executive vice president in charge of global account service. Deputy managing director Cathy Pittham will replace Levendusky as managing director of The Weber Group/Europe.
Hill, Holliday Unveils Pro Bono Work
BOSTON–The Massachusetts Eating Disorder Association next week will launch an awareness campaign to promote National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Feb. 20-27. Created by Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos here, the pro bono effort consists of four posters and targets middle school, high school and college students.
