Goodby Hires Palmer as Associate CD

SAN FRANCISCO Publicis Groupe’s Chemistri has lost Rob Palmer, its creative director, to Omnicom Group’s Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, where he will work on new business starting next week as associate creative director.

Palmer led the $300 million Cadillac account for the Troy, Mich.-based Chemistri, which he joined last summer. He knew Goodby staffers, including co-creative director and partner Jamie Barrett, from their days together at Wieden + Kennedy, and had always wanted to work with them, Palmer said.

Palmer, who was hired last week, fills a vacancy created when Harry Cocciolo left the San Francisco-based shop in January, said agency partner and creative director Rich Silverstein.

Silverstein said Palmer was brought to the shop to work on new business. “I’ve always liked his work—he’s a professional,” Silverstein said. “It doesn’t hurt to have a good art director.”

Palmer said he is happy the timing is finally right for him to work at Goodby in San Francisco.

Palmer joined Wieden in Portland, Ore., where he won an Emmy for his work on behalf of ESPN’s SportsCenter, in 1995. He left in 2000 to work on Apple at TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif. Later that year Palmer returned to Wieden and earned a Kelly Award and a gold Lion for his work on Altavista.
