Gill to Head Planning at Horizon

Continuing its expansion here, Horizon Media has named Rebecca Gill media planning director for its Los Angeles office. She joins from 120 Advertising & Branding/Think New Ideas, where she was media director.

“This is the first time we have had a West Coast planning director in this office of such a high profile,” said Zach Rosenberg, executive vice president and general manager of the media agency’s Western region, who worked with Gill at TBWA\Chiat\Day in the early ’90s. “It’s nice to reunite with talent that you know. Rebecca’s diverse experience is going to enhance our capabilities and her joining is continued evidence of our commitment to grow.”

Besides the time spent at 120 and TBWA\C\D, Gill’s curriculum vitae includes stints at Grey Advertising in L.A., where she was an associate media director on Lucky Stores, Scripps Health and Trams America Life.

“I have always worked at creative or full-service shops,” said Gill, “and I thought it would be interesting to go somewhere where media was the most important thing rather than somewhere where they say, ‘You know, we just can’t execute that plan creatively.’ ”

She also mentioned her working relationship with Rosenberg as another factor that brought her to the job.

Horizon has been on a determined growth kick in the West this year. In September, the office picked up the $10 million Stuart Anderson’s Black Angus media business, pushing the L.A. outpost’s claimed billings past $100 million.

In June, Rosenberg, one of the better known young rainmakers in the market, arrived from Initiative Media North America, where he had been senior vice president/new business development, to take the Horizon helm in L.A.

Horizon’s L.A. client roster includes NBC, MSNBC, Columbia Tri-Star Television, the Western Region Volvo Dealers and International House of Pancakes. Nationally, the independent media shop claims $700 million in billings.
