Garcia Succeeds Vogel at BBDO Detroit

CHICAGO BBDO Detroit chairman and CEO Mike Vogel is retiring, and the shop is bringing in Joe Garcia as president of the agency effective today, according to the shop.

Vogel, 57, will remain at that agency for the next three months to help manage Garcia’s transition. In addition, Pete Swiecicki, 45, the shop’s CFO has been promoted to chief operating officer of the Omnicom Group agency. The chairman and CEO position will remain unfilled for the time being, according to an agency representative.

“Mike has done an extraordinary job for us,” said Andrew Robertson, BBDO Worldwide president. “He led the consolidation of all the Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep above and below-the-line responsibilities into a single, fully integrated agency.”

Garcia, 40, was most recently global business development director at Chemistri in Detroit (formerly D’Arcy Detroit.) During his four years there, he was responsible for relaunching the Cadillac brand. Prior to Chemistri, Garcia worked for Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi on the Toyota business.
