If you hire a director known for his wacky sensibility, you should expect wacky commercials. That’s a lesson now learned by the Utah State Fair. Organizers of the fair were excited about having Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess create the event’s TV spots this month-until they saw them. The ads showed actor Markus T. Boddie lovingly — some say lasciviously — serenading a pig and a funnel cake. The client was appalled, and promptly rejected the ads for having “sexual undertones” and being “over the top.”
