Expedia Reviews Shops for Creative Duties

Expedia has selected three finalists to compete for creative duties on its ad account, confirmed Ark Advisors, the consultancy that’s managing the client’s agency search.

The shops are Interpublic Group units McCann Erickson in New York and The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., and Havas’ Arnold in Boston, confirmed Ken Robinson, a principal at Ark here.

Client executives will brief the shops next week and final presentations are slated for “later in the summer,” Robinson said. The finals will take place either in late July or early August, according to sources.

The contenders emerged from a field of six agencies that met with the execs. Robinson did not identify the other shops.

The incumbent, independent Doner in Southfield, Mich., is not defending.

Not in play are media duties, which remain at independent TargetCast here.

Expedia’s major media spending totaled $59 million last year, down 28 percent from 2007’s total of $82 million, according to Nielsen. Those figures do not include online spending.

Doner has handled the business since 2006. Before that, the account was at IPG’s Deutsch/LA in Marina del Rey, Calif.
