Eight O’clock Coffee Seeks Creative Shop

NEW YORK Eight O’clock Coffee is compiling a list of prospective creative agencies to handle its account, the client said.

Barbara Roth, president of the Montvale, N.J., client, is conducting the review with director of marketing David Allen.

In December, Gryphon Investors in San Francisco bought the brand from A&P for about $105 million.

“We’re not a national business as of yet,” Roth said. “But we will be and at some point will want a national campaign.” She added that because of the company’s location, she would be focusing on shops in the New York tri-state area.

Independent DeVito/Verdi in New York was the last lead creative agency for the brand, winning the business in 1999, but the client has been working most recently on projects with the St. Louis office of Havas’ Arnold.

Roth would not comment on plans for the media spend, but said it would be “significantly higher” than in recent years. The client spent less than $1 million in media last year, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
