EarthLink Trims to Three

LOS ANGELES — Internet service provider EarthLink has narrowed the search for an agency to handle its $40-50 million creative and media account to three shops, according to sources.

They are: Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami and Los Angeles; D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in New York; and Leo Burnett in Chicago, sources said.

The incumbent, TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif., did not advance. TBWA\C\D representative Jeremy Miller said “We’re continuing to work as their day-to-day agency.”

Also cut were Berlin Cameron/Red Cell in New York; McKinney & Silver in Raleigh, N.C. and Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, Ore., said sources.

EarthLink was expected to select an agency from a list of seven contenders by March 1. A client representative claimed to be unsure of whether there had been a cut, but said there would be no decision this week.
