NBC is pretty proud of its peacock. The network introduced its bird as a logo in 1956, in an attempt to woo TV viewers from their black-and-white sets to color. So when it commissioned seven artists, animators and designers to create interpretive animations of the symbol, there were a few rules to follow. Spy reported that NBC gave its artists guidelines like not presenting the peacock in a ‘negative light or as a loser.’ Understandable, when your artists include J.J. Sedelmaier, animator of MTV’s infamous losers Beavis & Butthead. Others whose logos will air on NBC: pop artist Peter Max and Will Vinton animator David Daniels.
