Adobe Systems has be-gun contacting agencies about its$5-8 million direct marketing account.

A representative of Select Re-sources International in Los Angeles, which is conducting the review, said that about a dozen calls have been placed to prospective agencies. The initial playing field remains open, the source added.

A decision will be made by late March or early April.

Mark Miller, president of incumbent Rapp Collins in Dallas, said his agency will defend the business.

Adobe, the maker of software programs such as PhotoShop and Acrobat, last fall selected Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco for its $15-20 million general advertising account.

The client is based in San Jose, Calif.
