DGWB: Top Dog in Orange County




Wienerschnitzel, Qualcomm Ads Pick Up Best of Show in Print, TV
LOS ANGELES–DGWB went home the big winner at the 41st Annual Orange County Advertising Federation Ad Awards.
The agency’s 14 awards included the top honors in the TV and print categories. Winning Best of Show were the shop’s print ads for Wienerschnitzel and TV spot “Balcony” for Qualcomm. The Irvine, Calif., agency also received a judges special recognition for art direction for its “Chaos” campaign produced for FileNet.
The awards ceremony was held March 27 at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Tennis Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
DGWB’s other awards included eight golds and three silvers. Gold awards went to executions for AIDS Walk Orange County, Wienerschnitzel and FileNet.
Bozell Worldwide in Costa Mesa, Calif., received the most awards–a total of 18–with seven golds and 11 silvers. Its gold awards were split between campaigns for Freeman Cosmetics and Kawasaki Motors.
The other agencies receiving gold awards were: al Punto, Huntington Beach, Calif., for Miller Brewing; Side Show Advertising, Huntington Beach, for its Fullerton Museum Center campaign; DAL Design in Seal Beach, Calif., for collateral produced for its Spanky’s campaign; Lawrence & Mayo, Newport Beach, for a Fatburger point-of-purchase display; McElroy Communications, Newport Beach, for Vans Shoes; G2 Advertising, Huntington Beach, for a Mitsubishi TV spot; Topspin Communications, Newport Beach, for its Guyer Farms campaign; and Piazzo, Santa Ana, Calif., for an interactive self-promotion piece.
Bozell executive creative director Scott Montgomery and former Bozell principals Phil Salvati and Ken Sakoda were presented with lifetime achievement awards.
Comedian Doug E. Doug emceed the show, which this year used the theme “Big Fat Ugly Anthony’s Designer Imposter Awards Shack.”
Gold winners move on to the American Advertising District 15 competition. Regional winners will then compete for national Addy awards later this spring.
