The Interpublic Group shop will present a strategy that presumes a broad but overwhelmingly female demographic whose weight-loss goals vary, from people who are obese to potential members recovering from surgery who must make dietary adjustments to new moms having trouble getting rid of those last 10-12 pounds from pregnancy. Leading the effort: gm Val DiFebo, ecd Kathy Delaney, chief strategy officer Cheryl Greene, iDeutsch and directDeutsch director Fred Rubin, director of customer and data strategy Bobbi Casey Howell and chief media officer Peter Gardiner.

The shop is no stranger to the account, having produced the first Sarah Ferguson ads in 1997 (before the account moved to Seiden), and it has handled media for the chain for the past seven years. The pitch team is led by New York president Susan Cantor, chief creative officer Gary Goldsmith and director of media services Elissa Goldman, and backed by IPG sister shops Draft and R/GA. Global CMO Mark Goldstein seeking his first win since his June arrival, following failure to convert on Delta Air Lines and Vonage.

The Omnicom Group shop sees the challenge as how to position a brand that feels dated in a category characterized by trendiness, almost like fashion. First new-business effort helmed by Brett Gosper, president of TBWA’s New York Group, who arrived Oct. 4. To advance, shop touted its work for two female-targeting brands, Nivea and Bayer’s Ascensia, and its integrated efforts for Nextel. Pitch team includes group cd Patrick O’Neill (Absolut, Kmart); Richard Monturo, worldwide director of global strategy; and Ian Baer, N.Y. president of interactive/direct unit Tequila.

Young & Rubicam New York

The WPP Group contender’s history of integration plays to the client’s primary need, and two members of the pitch team (cd Richard Butt and managing partner Kim Bealle) have worked on one of the agency’s most integrated accounts: Colgate. Other key players include director of brand planning Belle Frank and managing director Mary Maroun, who is leading the charge. Maroun (formerly of TBWA\C\D) arrived in August; this is her first big pitch.
