Deutsch Adds Gerard in Senior Planning Role

LOS ANGELES Interpublic Group’s Deutsch/LA said it has hired Stefan Gerard as vice president and senior account planner, and promoted account planners Christian Cocker and Matt Jarvis to vice presidents. Gerard reports to Jeffrey Blish, partner and director of account planning.

Gerard joins the Marina Del Rey, Calif., agency from his Gerard Report consultancy, where he worked with Apple, Coca-Cola, Disney Interactive and Pfizer. He also co-founded Gen Art, which specialized in tracking the youth market, and was vice president and marketing director at iFUSE, a Web-based media network.

Gerard replaces Alasdair Lloyd-Jones, who left the agency last June to head up account planning at WPP’s Ogilvy & Mather, Los Angeles. “We’ve brought in Gerard particularly for new thinking on our Mitsubishi and TGI Friday’s accounts,” said Blish, who added that he “wasn’t hired for his youth-marketing expertise, but for his skill set.”

Blish called Jarvis and Cocker “two rock star planners, Matt on Coors Light and Christian as the key man on”

Cocker joined the agency in 2000 from Ogilvy & Mather, London, where he won the Francis Ogilvy Award for individual service. Jarvis is a 10-year ad veteran who joined Deutsch in 2001 after stints at Justice Technology Corp. and Publicis Groupe’s Leo Burnett, Chicago, where he worked on Procter & Gamble and Philip Morris. Both men have also worked on DirecTV.

“It is not a matter of growing the department,” said Blish, “but recognizing those who are doing the work.”
