DDB Wins NY Lottery

NEW YORK — DDB has won the estimated $60 million New York State Lottery account, sources said.

The agency beat out three other New York contenders, including incumbent Grey, Wolf Group and Bates in a review that began in December. DDB, which lost the account to Grey in 1998 after a ten-year run, was eager to win the business back.

Its award-winning “Hey, you never know” campaign showed humorous vignettes of how winning the lottery could change a person’s life.

Grey’s contract with the Schenectady, N.Y.-based client expires on October 1. The shop’s lottery campaign was tagged “Will you be ready if it happens to you?”
