Darling Tapped for Subaru VP Mktg Spot

Mark Darling has been named Vice President, Marketing at Subaru of America. Darling replaces Bill Cyphers who has been moved up to Vice President, sales, where he will oversee Subaru of America’s five regional sales offices, sales operations and field operations.

Darling comes to SOA from American Isuzu Motors, where he most recently served as Vice President, Brand Strategy. At SOA, US marketing arm of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan, he will report to Fred Adcock, Executive Vice President. Adcock was promoted last year from head of sales operations Executive Vice President.

Led by Subaru Outback utility wagon, the company reported its strongest May sales since 1987. Last month, Subaru sold 16,041 units, an increase of 2 percent from 2000 totals for the same period. Sales of the Outback totalled 5,750 units in May, an increase of 10 percent from May 2000 totals per a company release.

This year’s introduction has been the Impreza sedan, and the souped-up Impreza WRX, new to the U.S. market. Impreza posted sales of 1,588 units in May, an increase of 255 percent.
