Cracknell To Exit APL In London

Ammirati Puris Lintas last week made several management changes in its London office.
Andrew Cracknell steps down as chairman, relinquishing the reigns to William Eccleshare, who had been chief executive. Eccleshare will remain regional director of Northern Europe. In addition, Chris Thomas will step up as chief executive from his position as managing director.
Effective Nov. 1, Cracknell will work with worldwide chief executive officer Martin Puris to examine and improve the agency network’s creative process. Cracknell is expected to leave the shop at the end of the year.
“Martin Puris has a project which hugely interests me,” Cracknell said in a statement. “Then I’m going to take a rest, do some writing, have some jazz piano tuition and see where things take me.”
Cracknell was brought on board to be “a catalyst of change,” according to Puris. “He joined to raise APL’s profile, galvanize creative leadership and bring together a new generation of management,” he said. “With this completed, it is time for Andrew to hand over to a new generation.”
Commenting on the succession changes, Puris said the moves have been carefully planned. “William and Chris are both seasoned advertising professionals with years of experience in senior positions.”
Cracknell joined APL in 1995 as deputy chairman and executive creative director. He was named chairman in 1997. Eccleshare joined in January 1996 as chief executive.
