NEW YORK Volkswagen this week broke an Hispanic TV spot for the Jetta A5 in which a young driver overcomes a string of bad luck with the sedan.

The spot, “Superstitious,” via COD, Miami, will air nationally on Spanish-language television outlets. Campaign spending was not given.

In the spot, a guy wakes up and immediately realizes that this will not be a normal day for him. He breaks a mirror, opens an umbrella inside his room, crosses under a ladder and almost steps on a black cat that has crossed his path. When he leaves his apartment to meet his friends, he sees that one of them is wearing a T-shirt with the number “13” on it. But he says in Spanish, “I’ll drive,” realizing his luck will change when he’s in his Jetta.

“The new Jetta has received the best rating in its category of security in collisions by the prestigious Insurance for Institute Highway Safety,” Daniel Marrero, founding partner and creative director of COD, said in a statement. “When turning the Jetta to a refuge and antidote against the bad luck, the commercial emphasizes one of the most important attributes of the vehicle, its security.”
