CM, Tatham Among T.J. Maxx 7

Two Midwest agencies are among seven semifinalists for TJX Cos.’ $20 million T.J. Maxx account.

Pitching the business are Campbell Mithun, Minneapolis and Euro RSCG Tatham in Chicago, along with Bates USA and Cliff Freeman and Partners, both in New York; Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Boston; Long Haymes Carr, Winston-Salem, N.C.; and The Richards Group in Dallas.

The assignment consists mainly of broadcast chores. The client will handle significant print work in-house.

A cut to finalists will come by month’s end, and a decision is expected in late November, said Judy Neer, a consultant with Pile and Co., Boston, which is overseeing the review. Neer confirmed the list of semifinalists.

Having held the Kmart business for five years before losing it in a review earlier this year, Campbell Mithun has significant re-tail experience. And Hill, Holliday is familiar with the client—it already handles advertising for TJX’s 550-store Marshalls chain.

Holland Mark Advertising, Boston, was the incumbent for 625-store T.J. Maxx, picking up the business last year when it bought crosstown shop Ingalls, which had worked for the client for 23 years.
