Cinema advertising crossed the half-a-billion-dollar milestone last year climbing 18.5 percent to nearly $540 million, according to figures that will be released Monday (June 16) by Cinema Advertising Council, whose members account for more than 82 percent of U.S. movie screens. Both segments of the business, on-screen revenue, which accounts for 92 percent of the total, and off-screen revenue, including in-lobby promotions, sampling and special events, grew at the same robust 18.5 percent pace.

“The ways advertisers can leverage the cinema environment to carry a brand message continue to expand, so we believe the variety of advertisers will continue to grow and that there will be more sustained use of the medium,” said Stu Ballatt, president and chairman of the CAC and senior vp of marketing and research for Screenvision.
