Churchill Gets Global Work From Dresser

Only four months after forming an advertising unit, the Churchill Group of Houston landed an estimated $1-2 million account to head new international corporate imaging tasks for oilfield products giant Dresser Industries of Dallas.
Dresser, which had $7 billion in revenue last year, named Churchill its agency just two months after appointing Phil Tevis its senior vice president of global marketing.
The agency will produce an “integrated, international program” that includes advertising, research, corporate positioning, design and financial communications, according to a statement.
Heading the account will be Churchill Group chairman and chief executive officer Mirrel Kephart and Bob Wallace, president of the Churchill Advertising wing of the company. Churchill started its advertising unit only this past summer, with plans to pursue clients in the energy and energy services fields and build on its business-to-business marketing capabilities, according to the shop.
Churchill and Dresser first teamed in September after the former acquired Houston ad agency Jim Gillock & Associates, which handled advertising for several of the latter’s subsidiaries.
Gillock was retained as an executive vice president after the buyout to continue heading those accounts. Gillock said Dresser will continue to support ongoing advertising and branding for its numerous units.
“Dresser has changed radically in the past five years. We are broadening our ties with [The] Churchill Group to help us effectively communicate Dresser’s total commitment to the energy industry and our unique capabilities,” Tevis said in a statement.
The agency, with an annual net fee income of $3.8 million, hopes to formulate a consistent global message through its own resources, which includes membership in the WorldCom Group network of independent public relations firms.
