Cable Concern Selects Amalgamated

NEW YORK Amalgamated has been named lead agency to handle creative advertising for Court TV and its programming, the client said.

The independent New York shop, founded in 2003 and led by Charles Rosen, Jason Gaboriau and Doug Cameron, had been doing project work for the cable network’s shows such as Psychic Detectives and Dominick Dunne: Power, Privilege and Justice.

Amalgamated’s previous cable TV ad experience was for Fuse, a channel devoted to cutting-edge music that attempts to compete with MTV.

Amalgamated’s other clients include Unilever-owned Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, Fat Tire, New Belgium beers and ales, Cablevision and Svedka vodka.

In addition, South Norwalk, Conn.-based Media Storm, also an independent, will now handle Court TV’s media duties.

Media Storm’s work in the sector includes FX Network programs The Shield and Nip/Tuck, Iron Chef America for the Food Network and video-on-demand shows from NBC Universal.

According to TNS Media Intelligence, Court TV in recent years has spent $5-10 million annually on ads.

Court TV is based in New York and is a joint venture between Liberty Media and Time Warner. It is available in 85 million U.S. homes.
