Buechert Takes Post at McCann

More than four months after leaving Leagas Delaney, Court ney Buechert resurfaces today as evp and general manager of McCann-Erickson in San Francisco. He re ports to Mark Gault, evp and regional director of McCann-Erickson North America.

Buechert was one of four top managers to resign from Leagas, here, in June, citing concerns about its acquisition by a global network [Adweek, June 18].

“The urge to get busy again got pretty overwhelming,” said Bue chert, 38, who spent time with his family during his hiatus.

In his new post, Buechert will be reunited with Microsoft, a client he worked with at Anderson & Lembke, San Francisco, in the mid-1990s. Before that, he was at Young & Rubi cam and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, both San Francisco.

Buechert said McCann San Francisco’s client roster, which includes Del Monte Foods and Blue Shield of California, and the opportunity to help “build out the agen cy’s resources” were key draws. He compared the office’s growth in the last four years to the creation of an “interesting car.”

“It’s been a fairly stealthy pro cess, but now it is time to take this car out for a test drive,” he said. Bue chert conceded that not all the shop’s resources are in mint condition, and mistakes will be made during his first 6-10 months. He said working through these kinks will be “half the fun” of his new job.
