Brazilian Jet Maker Lands at McCann

LOS ANGELES Interpublic Group’s McCann Erickson has won global creative and media duties for the Brazilian commercial jet manufacturer Embraer, the agency said today.

Embraer’s spending was undetermined. Ian McGregor, executive vice president and general manager of the Los Angeles agency, said that the company typically does extensive print advertising.

McGregor said the business went into review at the end of last year, and the client considered a number of undisclosed agencies in this country and the United Kingdom.

“It was our creativity and our background in defense that was decisive,” said McGregor. “We are excited about the opportunity to help create demand for Embraer’s excellent products throughout the world.”

McCann handles Northrop Grumman and has created work for Honeywell, McDonnell Douglas and Boeing.

Sao Paulo-based Embraer (Empresa Brasileria de Aeronautica S.A.) bills itself as the world’s leading manufacturer of jet aircraft with up to 110 seats. McGregor said the company would be important in the coming era of air taxis in which light jets provide more convenient service.

Embraer spent about $1 million on ads last year, per TNS Media Intelligence.
