Brand Jordan “Simple Math”

The Bowl Championship Series ranking system takes a hit in Wieden + Kennedy’s latest ad for Brand Jordan titled “Simple Math.” The visceral spot directed by Mark Romanek contrasts the complicated mathematical equation used to rank college football teams with what the ad emphasizes really matters, all the hard work the players put into the season. “How did we do this year?” asks the voiceover detailing the equation over intense images of players training. “Success is not calculated,” sums up the spot. “It is earned.” W+K has always had a way with commenting on sports culture as it sells its sports brands and this is another fine example of why Nike and its sub-brands like Brand Jordan  most often lead the conversation.—Eleftheria Parpis
