Big Bang, VitroRobertson Take Highest Honors At San Diego Creative Awards Competition

LOS ANGELES–Big Bang Creative Idea Engineering captured the 1997 best of show prize while VitroRobertson won more than 40 awards at the April 19 San Diego Creative Show.





Big Bang’s Carlsbad, Calif., and Seattle offices landed the top award for an out-of-market, pro bono poster campaign for the Save the Kalakala Foundation, devoted to restoring a historic 1935 Seattle ferry boat.





The agency netted six gold and four silver awards as well as 13 excellence prizes for work on STA Travel, the Los Angeles Creative Club, Kalakala, Digital Stock, Taco Del Mar, Alba Yamaha, Gath Surf Helmets and Big Bang’s holiday card. Texas Monthly editor and art director D.J. Stout served as the show’s host as well as a judge.





‘There was a lot of good work and we had great judges, so we were honored to take home best of show,’ said Big Bang creative director Wade Koniakowsky.





The judges gave the most awards to San Diego, Calif., agency VitroRobertson. The shop took home nine gold and eight silver awards and 29 excellence prizes for executions for Taylor Guitar, Asics Tiger, Odyssey Sports, Braun Thermoscan and AirTouch Cellular.





Other gold winners included Mentus, O’Shaughnessy-Parr, John Mireles and Dan Sanchez, Mires Design and Visual Asylum.





Silver award winners included Mires Design; John Ball and Miguel Perez; Jose Serrano, Miguel Perez and Tracy Sabin; Poodle Farm; Aaron Angel Design; Hollis Design; Paul Beauchamp; Raphael Lopez Studio; Michele Humphrey; Carl Vanderschuit; Tyler Blik Design; Medallion Associates; DiZinno Thompson; Scott Ramsey Design; and Capener, Matthews & Walcher.
