BFC Pins Hopes On Family Matters

The Black Family Channel, betting that a conservative spin will help it attract viewers—and advertisers—is launching nine “positive values” shows this weekend in an effort to address what it contends is a dearth of family-friendly fare for African Americans.

Among the programs are an educational spelling-bee game show, a teen-talk program and the BFC’s version of American Idol, the Black College Talent Hour. “The notion that all the blue states are atheist is shortsighted,” said Rick Newberger, BFC president and CEO.
