BBDO Passes on $12 Mil. Illinois Tourism

CHICAGO BBDO here said it will not defend in the review for the Illinois Department of Economic Opportunity’s $12 million tourism account.

“After much deliberation, we have determined that our agency resources could be better utilized servicing other areas of our business, rather than pursuing this assignment,” said agency president Tonise Paul in a statement. She said the agency would look to land another travel or tourism account within a year.

The shop has handled the account since January 2000, and its work carried the tagline, “Right here. Right now.” Though the review was mandated by contract, sources said a change in state administration last year also contributed to the review.

DECO has contracted Boston consultant Pile & Co. to conduct the review. Request for proposals are due back on Monday. Finalist presentations will take place in early December, sources said.
