Browning, who retired as chief executive officer and president of Chicago agency Bender, Browning, Dolby & Sanderson in January, has reimmersed himself in cartooning, an avocation he has neglected for years.
His first public exhibition of cartoons recently was displayed at The Tavern Club, where he has been a member for 31 years. The cartoons-many about life at the club itself-were well received and more than half of the 20 works were purchased.
“It’s been tremendously satisfying, especially if you’re not so good, like me,” Browning joked.
A cartoonist since he was a child, Browning began his agency career as an art director before moving to account management.
“I didn’t have the time before [to draw], but now I do, so I am,” he said.
