Ask Jeeves Buys Search Technology Company

NEW YORK Ask Jeeves said that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Tukaroo, a desktop search technology company.

The deal comes a month after the Emeryville, Calif.-based company closed its $501 million acquisition of Interactive Search Holdings.

Since its 2001 purchase of the Teoma search engine, Ask Jeeves’ strategy has been to “build or acquire differentiated, next-generation, best-in-class products or technologies,” said CEO Steve Berkowitz.

Tukaroo’s technology allows users to do searches of files and the contents on their hard drive, the local network and the Internet. Ask Jeeves did not disclose the price tag for the San Jose, Calif., company.
