Annual WSAAA Conference Offers “Inspirationž To Its Participants

“Adventure, inspiration and passion” are the themes for this year’s “Refresh,” the 1998 Western States Advertising Agencies Association annual conference.
The conference will be held April 23-26 at the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif., near Palm Springs, Calif.
Scott Gilbert, chief executive officer for Saatchi & Saatchi’s Los Angeles office, and Los Angeles-based Asher & Partners’ president Joel Hochberg will serve as conference co-chairs.
“It will be the best conference ever,” said Gilbert. “It will be a wonderful opportunity to get reinvigorated and excited about the business and have some fun with old friends.”
The first day of the event includes check-in, a cocktail reception, an opening night banquet featuring comedian Jake Johannsen and cognac and cigars to finish off the evening.
A buffet breakfast kicks off Friday’s itinerary, which is followed by the first conference general session.
Featured speakers are James Taylor, Ph.D., senior vice president of global marketing for Gateway 2000; Anita DeFrantz, the first female vice president of the International Olympic Committee; mountain climber Todd Skinner; and Peter Glen of Peter Glen, Inc. Golf and tennis tournaments will follow the speakers.
Saturday will begin with a buffet breakfast, followed by the second general session.
That session will feature Operation Hope’s John Bryant; Doug Wood, executive partner of Hall Dickler Kent Friedman & Wood; Joe Kraus of Excite; Anil Singh of Yahoo; and Bob Scarpelli, vice chairman and chief creative officer of Adweek’s Midwest agency of the year, DDB Needham Chicago.
A pool party will be held late Saturday afternoon, followed by a cocktail reception and a banquet.
The conference concludes on Sunday with a farewell breakfast.
Activities for children of WSAAA participants will also be provided.
