NEW YORKIndependent design shop Powell was hired to handle strategic repositioning and ad vertising for the relaunch of Rheingold Beer, the agency said. Billings are about $1 million. Other clients of the New York shop include American Standard, Penguin Books and Allied Domecq.Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group named Seiter & Miller Advertising its agency. The New York-based client operates 15 restaurants in the U.S., with one scheduled to open in Dallas early next year. Its holdings include eight restaurants under the Smith & Wollensky name; New York establishments Maloney & Porcelli, Manhattan Ocean Club, ONEc.p.s., Cité and The Post House; and New York and Chicago outposts of Park Avenue Café. Seiter & Miller, which is based in New York, is charged with creating an ad campaign for the client.New York-based Magnet Communications opened an outpost in Washington. The new office is headed by executive vice president Phil Armstrong, formerly managing partner of Earle Palmer Brown, who reports to Magnet CEO David Kratz. The public relations and communications agency also officially launched a public affairs practice, which is based in the new Washington office. Armstrong oversees that practice as well. Magnet has additional offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Pittsburgh, Corona, Calif., and Baltimore. The shop is owned by Havas.Public relations agency Cohn & Wolfe was ranked first in 18 of 23 categories in the 2002 Thomas L. Harris/Impulse Research Public Relations Client Survey. The survey polled more than 1,500 communications professionals. Cohn & Wolfe is based in New York and has additional offices in Copenhagen, Denmark; Frankfurt, Germany; Geneva; London; Los Angeles; Madrid, Spain; Milan, Italy; Montreal; Paris; San Francisco; Sydney, Australia; and Toronto. The shop is part of WPP Group.Weber Shandwick was named global public relations agency for Palo Alto, Calif.-based Agilent Technologies, which manufactures test, measurement and monitoring devices; semiconductor products; and chemical-analysis tools. The New York-based shop is responsible for implementing a public relations program that will support Agilent's communications and electronics businesses in North America, the United Kingdom and Asia. The account will be handled out of the agency's Campbell, Calif., office. Sepa rately, Weber Shandwick was hired by Chicago-based Nuveen Investments to provide financial-marketing and public relations services, following a review. The client, a unit of The John Nuveen Co., provides investment-management services. The shop's financial-services-marketing practice, which is based in Chicago, will manage the account. Weber Shandwick is a unit of Interpublic Group. NEW JERSEYCramerSweeney Marketing Communications was tapped to handle publicity and promotional materials for a newly restored 1757 Quaker farmhouse in Moorestown. The Tallman House was scheduled to be demolished last year, but was saved from destruction by the president of the Historical Society of Moorestown. The house was renovated and decorated in the Quaker style under the society's guidance and is open to the public through next month. CramerSweeney is based in Maple Shade.Interpublic Group marketing agency Gillespie was tapped to oversee the cor porate circulation-renewal efforts for Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. The Princeton-based shop will handle a multipart renewal series for the New York-based client's 17 publications, including Elle, Premiere, Metropolitan Home, Car and Driver and Woman's Day. Gillespie's Magazine Marketing Group, which specializes in working with the publishing industry, will handle the business. Gillespie provides advertising, public relations, direct- and database-marketing, corporate-design, in teractive and healthcare-marketing services. Gillespie is a McCann-Erickson WorldGroup company.Masterminds Advertising won four awards at the Jersey Shore Public Relations and Advertising Association's 28th Annual JSPRAA Awards dinner, which was held in Holmdel on Oct. 11. The Egg Harbor Township-based marketing and advertising agency won awards in the following categories for these clients: Newspaper Campaign, for Casino Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ontario; Invitation, for AtlantiCare in Pomona; Television Commercial, for AtlantiCare Heart Institute in Pomona; and Stroke of Genius Gold Award, for Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Miss.Keating Public Relations' Lifestyle Practice was retained by the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival to create and implement a media relations program designed to build the Madison-based festival's brand and raise its profile. Keatingpr will work in conjunction with the nonprofit theater company's internal public relations staff. The agency, which is based in Millburn, serves clients in the life-sciences, financial, technology, lifestyle and economic-development sectors. PENNSYLVANIAAlcoa Building Products, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alcoa, named Elias/Savion Advertising its agency, following a review. The client manufactures siding materials and accessories for home exteriors, such as shutters, louvers, crown moldings, gable vents, window mantels and door surrounds. Alcoa Building Products' core brands include Alcoa and Mastic siding. The Pittsburgh-based shop will create marketing, advertising and public relations programs intended to increase the Pittsburgh-based client's growth.Schubert Communications was hired by Pelletron Corp. to create and implement an ongoing public relations program. The assignment includes trade show support. The Lancaster-based client manufactures industrial contaminant-removal systems that are used in the automotive, medical-equipment, product-design and development, plastics, textiles, and food industries, among others. Schubert is a Downingtown-based business-to-business marketing-communications company.Perkasie-based Furia Rubel Communications was hired by law firm Sheller, Ludwig & Badey to redesign its Web site and provide strategic media relations services and marketing counsel. The firm has offices in Philadelphia and Marlton, N.J. The strategic-communications agency specializes in providing public relations, marketing and business-development services to attorneys. The shop also represents clients in the marketing, nonprofit and healthcare industries.
