TEXAS
GSD&M, Austin, launched four 15-second television spots promoting Southwest Airlines’ sponsorship of the National Football League. The ads show fans acting oddly in everyday settings. In one, two groomsmen at a wedding pour a bowl of punch on the bride and groom–duplicating a common on-field ritual. Each of the ads ends with the on-screen lines, “Must be football season” and “Proud sponsor of the NFL.”
DDB Needham Dallas released the latest television commercial in an ongoing series for athletic shoe and apparel retailer FootAction USA, based in Irving. The 30-second spot features Terrell Davis of the Denver Broncos.
VT/TV Graphics, Houston, produced a special video for Houston Comets advertisers and season ticket holders titled “We Got Next.” The 22-minute program premiered at an AMC theater on Aug. 20 at a private showing held for Comets players, coaches and corporate sponsors. The video was also distributed to 3,300 season ticket holders.
San Antonio-based DiBaggio Design developed a holiday promotion for The Gambrinus Co.’s Corona Extra and Corona Light beers. Point-of-purchase displays, themed “O’Tannenpalm,” feature visuals of a palm tree decorated with colored lights. Lois/EJL, Chicago, developed television spots supporting the promotion that will break in December.
Gilbreath Communications, Houston, has relocated to new office quarters at 15995 North Barkers Landing, Suite 100, Houston 77079. Telephone: (281) 649-9595, fax: (281) 752-6899. The 4,700-square-foot space is the largest the company has occupied since its founding in 1990. Separately, Gilbreath was selected to provide advertising and public relations support for the Houston Area Urban League.
Texas Monthly reported its advertising pages for the first six months of 1998 are up 6.8 percent over the same period last year. Revenue for those ad pages increased 16.5 percent over last year.
Patrick Henry Creative Promotions, Houston, was hired to develop national on-premise promotions for Allied Domecq’s Kahlœa liqueur and Sauza tequila.
Gannett Advertising & Marketing, Dallas, earned a national finalist designation at the Vision Awards for its Towne Square Furniture corporate video. Towne is a furniture manufacturer in Hillsboro.
The McIntosh Advertising and Design House, Austin, recently completed a second round of product support assignments for Jato Technologies, a privately held semiconductor company in Austin. Among the projects was a product brief for Jato’s network accelerator solutions and a product sales manual design. The agency also developed a series of internal print materials for the merchant banking group of Banc One Capital Markets in Columbus, Ohio.
Aries Productions, Arlington, worked with Witherspoon & Associates, Fort Worth, on a production shoot for two upcoming TV spots for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The ads, themed “What do you want to know?” will air on network and cable programming.

OKLAHOMA
Hartman Communications, Tulsa, was chosen to handle marketing communications assignments for Infinitec Communications after a competitive selection process. Infinitec, Tulsa, develops products that enable telephone companies to maximize the voice and data capacity of their existing infrastructures.

NEW MEXICO
Vaughn/Wedeen Creative, Albuquerque, earned five American Graphic Design Awards for excellence from Graphis Design:USA. The winning entries included collateral and/or presentation materials for US West, G.G. Pulley & Associates, the New Mexico chapter of the March of Dimes, University of New Mexico Foundation and Balboa Travel and Motivation.
