Meyer/Fredericks & As-sociates in Chicago was hired for advertising and marketing duties by United Community Bank in Lisle. The bank opened in September with $7 million in capital. Its proposed chairman is Manny Sanchez of Lisle, a Chicago attorney.


Zimmerman, Laurent & Richardson in Des Moines was named agency of record for Beam Industries, which claims to be the world’s largest maker of central vacuum systems. The Webster-based client markets under the brands Beam, Frigidaire and Smart. Beam is a division of White Consolidated Industries.


Hedge & Company in Southfield was put in charge of public relations for Valeo, an auto supplier whose offerings include climate control, lighting systems, wiper systems, engine cooling and friction materials.

Creative Ink in Richmond was chosen by Sonic Solutions as the beta test site for development of eDVD.


Periscope in Minneapolis was retained to handle marketing for Signature Sports Group’s 2001 Dayton’s Challenge charity golf tournament, which benefits the Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Several Twin Cities agencies were considered for the assignment, which will include brand positioning, print, direct, outdoor, online and point-of-sale. ASI Image Studios in Minneapolis handles on-site and collateral.


Kupper Parker Communications in St. Louis was named agency of record for, St. Louis, which peddles high-end commercial and residential surveillance equipment over the Internet.’s offerings include mounted cameras and monitors. Separately, KPC picked up agency of record status for the St. Louis County Economic Council. The agency’s task is to let businesses know the council exists and what it can do. The council describes its mission as creating “high-quality business and employment opportunities for long-term, diversified economic growth in the St. Louis area.


Flynn, Sabatino & Day in Columbus moved its sports marketing division from Miamisburg to Columbus.


Zizzo Group Advertising in Milwaukee was retained to handle media and marketing for 27 stores the Gottschalks chain of department stores. Gottschalks, based in Fresno, Calif., has 82 stores in seven states.

DMC Advertising & Direct Marketing in Pewaukee was named agency of record for California Closets’ Madison, Wis., franchise, and will develop a consumer and business-to-business campaign for the client’s locations in Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
