Adding Up Adweek’s Classified Ads for Jobs takes

Having soared in the early months of this year, the market for jobs in advertising, media and marketing is now plunging back to earth. Think of altimeter dials rotating madly toward zero and you get the general tone of the past several months’ data on help-wanted ads running in Adweek. As you can see from the chart, the rout extends to all regions, so job-seekers have little incentive to pack their bags. If the nation’s overall job market were behaving like the advertising/media/marketing sector, there’d be riots in the streets. The fact that the year-to-date figures are still on the plus side (albeit narrowly) for five of our six regions is a tribute to just how strong the market was during the first half of 2000.Wood River Gallery/Picture Quest
