Ad Council and MLK Foundation Launch PSAs

WASHINGTON, D.C. The Ad Council and the Martin Luther King National Memorial Project Foundation on Wednesday launched a public service campaign to raise money to place a statue of the slain civil rights leader on the Mall in Washington. The memorial would be the first on the Mall to honor an African-American.

The campaign, which breaks this week, will include work done by New York Publicis Groupe shop Saatchi & Saatchi for TV, radio, print and the Internet. Spots featuring actress Halle Berry and the Today show’s Al Roker focus on what the world would be like without King.

“I’m confident that this advertising will raise widespread public awareness about the memorial and its significance, and inspire all Americans to support its development,” said Ad Council president and CEO Peggy Conlon.

The campaign was unveiled at a Congressional event attended by Senate Majority Leader William Frist (R-Tenn.), Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D-Md.), Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) and House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.). Those legislators presented speeches praising Dr. King’s legacy.
